ANDREA DOVIZIOSO (DUCATI TEAM) A REMPORTÉ LE GRAND PRIX DU QATAR, PREMIÈRE COURSE DU CHAMPIONNAT DU MONDE MOTOGPTM 2018 SUR LE CIRCUIT DE LOSAIL AU QATAR. L’ITALIEN A DEVANCÉ LE CHAMPION DU MONDE EN TITRE, MARC MARQUEZ (REPSOL HONDA TEAM) ET VALENTINO ROSSI (MOVISTAR YAMAHA MOTOGP).

Parti en cinquième position, Andrea Dovizioso, chaussé de MICHELIN Power Slick Medium à l’avant et Soft à l’arrière, a perdu trois places lors du premier tour et s’est retrouvé en septième position, laissant la tête de la course au poleman, Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3). L’Italien est remonté au fil des tours pour se hisser à la troisième place au 11ème tour derrière le leader Zarco et Marquez.

Marquez, ayant opté pour un MICHELIN Power Slick Hard à l’avant et Soft à l’arrière, et Dovizioso se sont alors échangé la deuxième place alors que Johann Zarco n’arrivait pas à détacher de ses deux poursuivants.

Le vice-champion du monde 2017 s’est s’emparé de la tête à cinq tours de l’arrivée (18ème tour) et a enchaîné les tours rapides pour s’offrir son premier succès de la saison et le neuvième de sa carrière. Il a signé le meilleur temps en 1.55.242 lors du 19ème des 22 tours.

Marc Marquez a rallié l’arrivée en deuxième position à seulement 0,027 seconde du vainqueur.

Huitième sur la grille, Valentino Rossi (MICHELIN Power Slick Medium à l’avant et Soft à l’arrière) a effectué une belle course et s’octroie la dernière marche du podium.

Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol), premier pilote Indépendant, et Danilo Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing) ont complété le Top 5.

Le vainqueur de l’édition 2017, Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), auteur d’une belle remontée, s’est classé sixième devant Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) qui fêtait son 200ème départ en MotoGPTM.

Auteur d’une pole position record (1.53.680), Johann Zarco (MICHELIN Power Slick Medium à l’avant et Soft à l’arrière) a mené les 17 premiers tours avant de céder aux attaques simultanées de Dovizioso et Marquez à cinq tours du drapeau à damier. Le Français a franchi la ligné d’arrivée en huitième position.

Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) et Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) ont terminé dans le Top10.

THE OPENING CLASH OF THE 2018 MOTOGPTM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AT LOSAIL, QATAR, WAS WON BY ANDREA DOVIZIOSO (DUCATI TEAM). THE ITALIAN WAS JOINED ON THE PODIUM BY DEFENDING CHAMP MARC MARQUEZ (REPSOL HONDA TEAM) AND VALENTINO ROSSI (MOVISTAR YAMAHA MOTOGP).

Dovizioso started from fifth on the grid on medium and soft MICHELIN Power Slicks front and rear but fell back three places during the opening lap, leaving polesitter Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) to set the early pace. The Italian soon started to fight his way back, however, to appear in third position by Lap 11, behind Zarco and Marquez.

Dovizioso then squeezed past Marquez (hard/soft MICHELIN Power Slicks) and started to home in on the Frenchman who had failed to pull out a clear gap.

Five laps from home (Lap 18), the 2017 runner-up found a way past the Spaniard before a string of quick laps sewed up his first victory the year and the ninth of his career. He also claimed the fastest race lap (1m55.242s) on Lap 19 of the 22-lap grand prix.

Marquez was second over the line, just 0.027s adrift, while Rossi (medium/soft MICHELIN Power Slick Mediums) benefitted from a strong finish to secure third spot.

Cal Crutchlow (4th, LCR Honda Castrol) was the first independent team rider home, ahead of fifth-placed Danilo Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing).

The 2017 Qatar winner Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) fought back well to harvest sixth at the flag, chased by Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) who celebrated his 200th MotoGPTM start at Losail.

Zarco (medium/soft MICHELIN Power Slicks) was fastest in qualifying (with a record pole-winning lap of 1m53.680s) and led for the first 17 laps but had to settle for eighth place at the finish, followed by Andrea Iannone (9th, Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Jack Miller (10th, Alma Pramac Racing).
